Thursday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m.

Acclaimed poet, memoirist, and novelist Paulette Jiles will deliver the seventh annual Bettye Jolly Lecture on Thursday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Eudora Welty House & Garden. The lecture will be followed by a book signing and reception in the Visitor Center next door. This event is free and open to the public, so bring a friend.

Jiles will share thoughts about her latest book, CHENNEVILLE, a story of grief, vengeance, and redemption set in the post-Civil War frontier. Dr. Michael Pickard and Dr. Suzanne Marrs will introduce the author and lead a discussion. In 2017, Jiles appeared at the Eudora Welty House & Garden as a guest of Lemuria Books, where she read from NEWS OF THE WORLD, a 2016 National Book Award finalist. Jiles’ appearance for the 2024 Bettye Jolly Lecture is co-sponsored by the Eudora Welty Foundation and the Visiting Writers Series at Millsaps College.
