Old-fashioned red Lady Clare camellia flower with yellow center and dark green leaf on a light green background

Grow old-fashioned camellias like Eudora Welty! At this outdoor workshop with Paige Mizell, a small group of adults will learn how to find, cultivate, and propagate Welty's favorite flowers—and discover their history, too. As door prizes, a handful of heirloom camellias like the ones Eudora Welty grew will be given away, just in time for fall planting! This event will take place in the Welty garden and historic garage from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 7. $20 per person. Email info@eudoraweltyhouse.com to register.

Paige Mizell is president of the Southeast Louisiana Nursery Association. Mizell learned to care for plants as a child growing up around her family's nursery, Mizell Camellia Hill Nursery in Folsom, Louisiana, where she has officially worked since 2014. In addition, the former high school educator and coach is pursuing her Ph.D. in applied clinical psychology.
